The Butterfly Foundation is Australian's premier community based charity that supports eating disorder sufferers and their carers. Much of The Butterfly Foundation's work is based on helping young people build positive self-esteem by understanding and dealing with feelings about their physical appearance and how this affects their self esteem. Nissan has donated the use of a Micra to the foundation and actively supports the foundation and their activities. The Butterfly Foundation uses the Micra to call on up to 100 primary and secondary schools and community groups each year, delivering health promotion and education activities that have an inspiring message of positive body image. Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Butterfly Foundation, Claire Vickery said "The wonderful support from Nissan through the provision of the Micra will give the Foundation a much greater opportunity to reach the community with its important eating disorder education and positive body image messages. "Nissan's donation will also raise the profile of our organisation and the work we do, as the car is detailed with our Butterfly branding and logo," she said. Senior Manager, Corporate Communications at Nissan, Jeff Fisher, believes the partnership is very much in keeping with Nissan's community values. "When discussing with Micra buyers the many organisations that provide essential services to the community, we found that issues around body image and eating disorders were top of mind with young Australians. We therefore believed that a way Nissan could help would be in the practical application of helping an organisation like The Butterfly Foundation get out to these groups wanting more information, discussion and education about the issues. We support The Butterfly Foundation's values and their efforts to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle," Mr Fisher added. |
