Nissan History
How it all began
We started all the way back in 1911 and built our first ever Dat Car (Datsun) for the Japanese market in 1914. Now we make cars for everybody, all over the world.
Nissan in Australia
We opened our Australian headquarters in 1972, where we manufactured cars for the next 20 years. Our Dandenong South Casting Plant in Victoria recently won a series of exclusive manufacturing contracts with Nissan Japan to produce castings for the new Nissan LEAF, the first mass-market zero tailpipe emission all-electric car. This will generate profits and secure jobs well into the future.
Australian Made
The Nissan Casting Australia Plant (NCAP) in Dandenong South, Victoria, is the only remaining one of its kind in Australia. A manufacturer-operated facility that makes parts for Nissan vehicles around the world. NCAP employs highly skilled workers, running three shifts a day making over one million die-cast aluminium parts, and a significant amount of local accessories every year. The Nissan Casting Plant has become a mother plant for the manufacture of EV and e-POWER powertrain components with a team of highly skilled engineers that work closely with the development teams in Japan.
Parts are distributed to Nissan assembly plants and Nissan affiliate powertrain plants globally – specifically in Japan, the USA, Thailand and Mexico – and supplies companies such as Marelli, Aichi Kikai and transmission specialist JATCO, all of which demand the highest possible quality standards.
